60’S ROCK & ROLL HIT SHOW AT SAVANNAH

-Sal Riggio reporting

The Villages were rocking at the Savannah Center last night to the tunes of the 60’s presented by The Broadway Bound Players.  “The Sensational Sixties Show” directed with a fantastic flow of song, dance and comedy by Carol Greenfield featured a cast of Villagers’ residents who celebrated “Peace, Love & Music” of the 60’s.

The Flashback Rock & Roll Band (Gary Davis, Tony Nasser, Ted Skolitz, Skip Wilkensen, Richard Faith, and Dave Hosack) with vocalist Ralph DiNome opened the program with the classic “Under the Broadwalk”.  Tony Oteri and assistant director Dawn Gesner added some comedy with a “Dirty Old Man” skit made famous on “The Smother Brothers Show”.  The Swinging Sixtes Dancers (Patti Card, Jo Gagne, Lynne Greenberger, Sara Kallioinen, Cathye Leshay, Pamela Merchant, Carol Putrelo, and Rosie Thesis) performed their Karen Bouffard choreography to the sounds of early 60’s “Fun…Fun…Fun” to the late 60’s “Hair”.

The “British Invasion” segment featured Beatles’ ballad “All My Loving” beautifully vocalized by Vinnie Misia.  The “Motown” hits were harmonized perfectly by The Dorels (Earl Cash, Cliff Cook, Tres Tresvant, Bill Roscoe, and Toni Booker).

Following an intermission, the show continued with the “Rock & Roll and Pop” genre.  Chris Bolus moved the audience to their feet with his delightfully entertaining rendition of “Delilah”.

The Villages packing the theater!

The show closed with “The Age of Aquarius” that included the Bob Dylan/Peter, Paul & Mary classic “Blowin’ In The Wind” covered gracefully and movingly by Jo Gagne, Ed Thul and Vinnie Misia.  Terri Green advised about “If You’re Going To San Francisco” and Sharon Archer and the cast closed the night of great musical memories with “Let the Sunshine In” (seemed appropriate considering our weather lately).

All in all, The Bound for Broadway Players of The Villages presented a terrific package of musical memories from the 60’s.  If you missed it, the show goes on again tonight and tomorrow.
