A 51-year-old Summerfield motorcyclist died in a fiery crash shortly before midnight Saturday on U.S. Hwy 441 in Marion County.
It is the second fatal motorcycle accident in Marion County this weekend.
David Alan Brown was riding his motorcycle north on US-441 in the right lane and was struck by a car driven by George W. Bartle III, 29, also of Summerfield, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
The motorcycle became lodged under the vehicle and a fire broke out.
Marion County Fire Rescue responded to the scene.
Brown, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Bartle was able to get out of his vehicle when the fire broke out and escaped with minor injuries. A passenger in his vehicle, 21-year-old Jessica A. Franzen, 21, also of Summerfield, also suffered minor injuries.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation and charges are pending, the FHP report indicated.
A motorcyclist was killed in an accident Friday night in Belleview.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene and has been identified as Cornell Thomas, 67, of Tallahassee.
Dorothy Boogaard, 80, of Del Webb Spruce Creek, was cited by Belleview police for violating the motorcyclist’s right of way. The accident occurred at U.S. Hwy. 27/441 at County Road 25A. Police indicated Thomas was wearing a helmet.
