Man in golf cart with no headlights arrested on DUI charge

A 43-year-old Wildwood man was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence after he was spotted driving a golf cart without headlights at 9:30 p.m. Friday.

Michael Robert Panico was arrested after he was spotted by an off-duty Sumter County sheriff’s deputy who reported a golf cart operator with a beer in his hand on County Road 222 at County Road 223, according to the arrest report. The off-duty deputy relayed that the golf cart was driving in the middle of the road with no headlights. When a deputy arrived, Panico was trying to push the golf cart off the road, the arrest report stated.
