During a traffic stop Wednesday on Interstate 75, Marion County sheriff’s deputies caught 22-year-old Janzel Luis Vega-Cartas with thousands of pills.
Deputies saw Vega-Cartas not wearing a seat belt, driving too close to other vehicles, illegally switching lanes and speeding. Once stopped, deputies learned that Vega-Cartas had a suspended driver’s license.
Deputies found 87 hydrocodone pills with a raw weight of 37.1 grams, as well as 2,534 alprazolam pills in the car. Vega-Cartas admitted to transporting the pills and planned to take the pills from Miami to somewhere in Kentucky.
Vega-Cartas is facing charges of trafficking and possession of narcotics.
