Republicans in The Villages have started an outreach effort which includes having a table at Market Night at Lake Sumter Landing.
On Tuesday evening, The Villages Republican Club of Sumter County manned the table at Market Night at Lake Sumter Landing Market Square.
Walter and Marie Lazinski of the Village of St. James were greeting those who stopped by to visit and pick up Republican literature.
“Down here everybody is from somewhere else,” said Marie Lazinski. “While they may know about politics back home, they don’t necessarily understand things down here.”
This will be an important election year with candidates at the state and county level, she said.
“We want to be able to explain things. This is the perfect place to do that,” she said.
Villager Joe Elliott, president of the Republican Club of Sumter Landing, has been leading the Republican clubs through a discussion of social media and goal setting.
The RCSL will meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lake Miona Recreation Center. You don’t have to be a member of the club to attend the meeting. At that meeting, Elliott will review the results of the January Round Table discussion and the resulting Goals for 2014.
He said that outreach will be critical in getting Gov. Rick Scott and his cabinet re-elected.
