The Lake County Health Department has restricted the hours of operation for Chula Vista, Hilltop, Southside and Paradise swimming pools to dawn to dusk. The county has indicated that the pool hours can be extended if upgraded area lighting is completed. Staff is working on the bid package for the work, according to District Property Manager Sam Wartinbee.
The lighting at those older pools had been grandfathered in, however Lake County is now asking that those pools adhere to the updated code.
It might take two to three months to resolve the lighting issue, Wartinbee said. Once those lighting issues are addressed those four pools will be back to staying open until 11 p.m. at night.
