Dennis Joseph Jeffrey
Dennis Joseph Jeffrey

Major Dennis Joseph Jeffrey, USA Ret. was born on August 13, 1949 and as a Christian began his dance with the angels on April 12, 2014 at the age of 64. He was preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Dorothy Jeffrey, his sons David Jeffrey and Daryl Jeffrey and his wife Joan Jeffrey. Dennis spent his life in military service, first as the son of a US Air Force Command Sergeant Major and later as a US Army officer himself. Over the course of this service Dennis was stationed abroad in England, Germany and Italy as well as in many states all along the east coast. He was an Airborne Infantry officer at heart and loved to tell stories about his days in the Army. Retiring from the Army in 1991 after 20 years of service he started his second career as a high school teacher in Rockville, CT and later at South Lake HS in Clermont, FL. Dennis’s personality was one that touched countless lives and over his career in the Military, and later as a teacher, he affected more people in positive ways than he could have imagined. He was full of life and always passed a smile on to whoever he encountered. He was the king of jokes and had an unbelievable ability to recall at a moments notice hundreds, if not thousands, of jokes to fit any situation. He always kept the people around him in good spirits and with smiles on their faces whether it was through one of the jokes he would tell or a story he had that could relate to the individual. He was constantly singing or whistling and the people he surrounded himself with could count on him for anything. Since retiring in The Villages, Dennis became heavily involved in this community. He played softball regularly in the neighborhood league and was also an umpire for the Division 3 neighborhood league. He was an avid golfer, a member of the Parrot Heads, the Winers Golf Group, The Village View Community Church, SERTOMA (Service to Mankind), and the American Legion. Recently he had begun a third career counseling troubled youth with the group Guardian Ad Litem. He was very excited about this new chapter in his life and was passionate about their cause. Dennis was full of life and enjoyed every minute of it. He was the type of person that would always try and put a smile on your face. It is hard to count how many lives Dennis touched and affected as he was loved by many and will be missed by all. Dennis is survived by his son Christopher and his wife Jennifer, his four grandchildren Lauren, Lia, Skyler and Savannah, his brothers Donald and Paul and his much adored wife Suzanne Peek. Dennis will be laid to rest at West Point Military Cemetery alongside his son David later this year with full military honors. A memorial service will be held on Friday April 18th from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the Eisenhower Recreation Center in The Villages, FL.
