Lady Lake officials on Monday decided to begin looking into a possible ordinance regulating how medical marijuana could be dispensed within the town’s borders.
Commissioners said they want to be proactive on the issue, potentially deciding where and how it could be sold.
Medical marijuana will be on the fall ballot as Florida could become the first Southern state to legalize use of marijuana for health-related reasons.
On Friday, Florida became the latest state to pass a highly restrictive medical marijuana bill to allow limited access to cannabinol, or CBD, based medical marijuana for treatment of chronic epileptic seizures and some other severe illnesses. Gov. Rick Scott said he will sign the bill into law when it reaches his desk.
