Carolyn Heald
Carolyn Heald

Carolyn Heald, 72, of The Villages, Florida, passed from this life Friday, May 23, 2014. Born in Worcester, MA she was the daughter of the late Robert Stephen Heald and Marjorie Johnson Heald.

Carolyn was a graduate of Springfield College, Springfield, MA, and moved to Fort Lauderdale to teach physical education. There she became an active church member, first at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church and then at First Baptist Church of Fort Lauderdale. Carolyn owned a Christian book store in Ft. Lauderdale for many years and went on to operate her own home-based business, Heald Enterprises.

When Carolyn sold her home in Fort Lauderdale, she left many dear friends behind, but her warm nature soon won her many new friends in The Villages. She was an enthusiastic member of the Quilting Guild of The Villages, where she served a term as president of the Mulberry Chapter. She was a charter member of Village of Faith Baptist Church in Wildwood. In 2012, she combined her church and quilting activities by helping to establish the Prayer Quilt Ministry at Village of Faith Baptist Church.

Carolyn never married. She lived a rich single life filled with church, family, music, sports, and quilting. She went on tour with noted organist, Diane Bish during her years in Fort Lauderdale, and developed a taste for travel. The only thing she didn’t love about cruising was leaving her sewing machine behind—until she discovered specialized cruises just for quilters.

Carolyn leaves behind a large and loving family. She is survived by a sister, Nancy Landers of Bourne, MA, nieces, Marcia Somerville of Sugar Grove, WV, Dianna Landers of Maynard, MA and nephews, Stephen Lawrence of Bedford, NH, James Lawrence of Wrentham, MA and Thomas Landers of Halifax, MA. Carolyn was a great-aunt (twelve times over). She also had eight great-grandnephews and nieces—and sewed a baby quilt for each of them.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, June 22 at Village of Faith Baptist Church, at 8653 CR 127, Wildwood, Florida. Carolyn will be interred beside her mother, Marjorie Johnson Heald, in the Oak Grove cemetery in Falmouth, Massachusetts in mid-July.
