
A 70-year-old Village of Belvedere man was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence following an accident Friday night in the Publix parking lot at Southern Trace shopping plaza.
Sumter County sheriff’s deputies were called to the parking lot at 7:45 p.m. after Villager Robert Edward Howard backed his 2003 Volkwagen Passat from a parking spot into another vehicle that was traveling by, according to the arrest report. He failed field sobriety tests and was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center, the arrest report indicated.
In addition to the DUI arrest, Howard was ticketed on a charges of careless driving and failure to carry proof of insurance.
Bond was set at $1,000.
