Longtime Villager and community leader Jo Weber became a Rotary Club district governor on July 1.

As district governor, Weber oversees 46 clubs in five counties. She is among 535 district governors for Rotary’s 34,000 clubs worldwide.

“My job is to support these clubs and their efforts to make our community much better,” she said.

She has lived in the community for 20 years and became a member of The Villages Rotary Club in 1998, two years after it started. She has served as president of The Villages Rotary Club and worked on the club’s local and district projects such as those related to youth services.

A retired math teacher from New Jersey, Weber served as a lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserve with a specialty in personnel administration. She is married to Dan Semenza, also a Rotarian and a retired elementary school teacher.

Besides her Rotary Club activities, Weber has served on The Villages Amenity Authority Committee, but decided this summer not to seek re-election.

The local Rotary Club works with The Villages Elementary School, the charter school and offers scholarships to high school students.

“We also do a lot of work to help people around the world,” Weber said.

Internationally, Rotary clubs help children born with cleft palettes in Mexico and Peru get the surgery they need to correct the problem.
