A 36-year-old Villages resident was arrested by Lady Lake police on a charge of driving under the influence after allegedly running a red light in a golf cart.

Chad E. Basford of the Village of Calumet Grove was arrested shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday after allegedly running a red light on Paige Place. He was pulled over in the parking lot at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church.

He told police he had consumed “about six drinks,” according to the Lady Lake Police Department arrest report. He failed field sobriety tests and later refused to provide a breath sample, the arrest report indicated.

He was charged with DUI and cited for running the red light. He was transported to the Lake County Jail where he later posted $1,000 bond and was released with a Sept. 2 court date.
