A highly intoxicated emergency room patient was arrested Tuesday night at The Villages Regional Hospital.

A Sumter County sheriff’s deputy was called to the hospital at about 7 p.m. after 50-year-old Steven J. Hamel of Lady Lake became combative. When the deputy arrived, Hamel was trying to get off the hospital bed and was yelling profanities, according to the arrest report. Hamel had a blood alcohol content of .304, according to the arrest report.

The deputy handcuffed Hamel and removed him from the hospital.

He was arrested on a charge of disorderly intoxication and transported to the Sumter County Detention Center where bond was set at $500.
