The death in July of a Lady Lake plastic surgeon has been determined to be an accidental drowning.
The body of 47-year-old Todd Philip Ginestra was recovered July 16 in the water off Fort Island Gulf Beach.
The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office led the search for Ginestra. This week the sheriff’s office released a report which indicated that it has been determined he drowned accidentally.
Ginestra had worked as a plastic surgeon at Mesos Plastic Surgery and Laser Center in Lady Lake.
A missing person report had been filed by his wife at 9 p.m. July 15 with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
The initial missing person report indicated that Ginestra had lost his sister six months earlier. He had also learned his employment contract would not be renewed.
On July 15, Ginestra’s wife had gone to the gym early that morning. She returned to find her husband had made the bed and had made lunch for her. She left for work at 8:30 a.m. She returned home from work and found nothing unusual, but her husband was not home.
With his wife concerned about Ginestra’s absence, the sheriff’s office was able to trace a “ping” off his phone to Fort Island, a place to which his family has ties.
He had not touched the family finances and made no credit card charges. He left behind a $3 million life insurance policy.
But the report issued by the Citrus County sheriff’s office this week pointed to signs that Ginestra’s death might have been accidental, not suicidal.
Ginestra was wearing SCUBA gear and the weather had been stormy. He had also lined up a job interview, the report indicated.
