A corrections officer with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office has been arrested on accusations that he supplied a jail inmate with a cell phone.
William Brooks was arrested on a charge of introduction of contraband into a correctional facility. He was booked at the Marion County Jail and later released after posting $2,000 bond.
An inmate had reported that he had seen another inmate sitting on a toilet talking on a cell phone. When that inmate was approached by a guard, the inmate tried to flush the phone down the toilet. However, MCSO personnel were able to retrieve the phone.
The inmate said he had befriended Brooks and asked him to meet with a friend and bring the phone into the jail.
“We cannot and will not tolerate this type of behavior at the Marion County Sheriff’s Office,” said Sheriff Chris Blair in a statement. “I expect more from our employees and hold them all to a higher standard. I am extremely proud of our corrections officers and detectives involved in this investigation. Their diligence in identifying and addressing this misconduct helped bring this to light and provided us the opportunity to solve this problem. We continue to strive to provide the best services for our public and it is of the utmost importance that we take immediate action when these types of situations occur.”
