A 43-year-old Bushnell woman and a 10-year-old Lehigh Acres girl were killed in an accident at 6:03 a.m. Monday on U.S. 301 in Sumter County.
Kristie L. White of Bushnell was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
Ten-year-old Alondra Vences had been a passenger in a 2008 Kia Sedona driven by her grandmother, 53-year-old Maria Vences from Lehigh Acres. Her vehicle had been traveling north on U.S. 301, south of SW 102nd Road, when it crossed over the centerline of the roadway into the southbound lane of U.S. 301 and collided with a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by White.
Alondra Vences was airlifted to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa where she was later pronounced dead.
Maria Vences was transported to Bayonet Point Hospital with critical injuries. Maria Vences’ daughter, 11-year-old Mia Vences, had also been a passenger in the vehicle and was transported to Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital where she was listed in critical condition.
The accident remains under investigation.
