Maple Leafs take over first place with a blow out win

The Bears scored 11 runs in the last 4 innings to get past the Canes. They were led by Brian Staub’s 3 hit day, scoring 3 runs and 2 rbi’s. Jim Sullivan also had 3 hits, while 5 others had 2 hits. The Canes got most of their offense from Player of the Day, Dave Norval. Dave, whose motivation came from a Paul Preuit email, had 3 OTF Home Runs, while driving in 7 runs. Dick Kanyan and manager Dave Sellars added 3 hits apiece. The win moves the Bears to 6-5, while Canes drop to 3-7.

The Wings pounded out 23 hits enroute to victory over the Bruins. Ed Connell led the way with 4 hits and 3 rbi’s. He got some help from Bob Crafton’s 3 hits and 3 runs scored and Bob Winder’s 3 hit 3 rbi day. Doug Goslee also added 3 hits and 2 rbi’s. Subs Mark Hildebrand and Al Mello hit OTF Home Runs for the Wings. Dave Patterson led the Bruins with 4 hits and 3 runs scored, while Leon Domsic and John Leone had 3 hits a piece. The Wings move to 5-5, while the Bruins drop to 7-3.

The Flyers’ Dick Smith knocked in the winning run in the bottom of the 7th for the win.  Smith ended up with 3 hits and 2 rbi’s on the day. Bill Warble, Jim Quirk and Tom Simmons each contributed 3 hits for the Flyers. The Isles got their offense from Linwood Manning, 3 hits, 3 rbi’s and Carl McWilliams 2 hits, 3 rbi’s.  Steve Wilson and Glen Forson added 3 hits apiece. The Flyers win moves them to 2-7, while the Isles drop to 3-6.

The Leafs scored 15 runs in the last 3 innings to pull away from the Avalanche for the win. Bruce Breiner led the way with a 4 hit, 5 rbi day including a home run. He got some help from Dan Vezina, 3 hits, 2 rbi’s, Don Geisler, 3 hits, 2 rbi’s, sub Woody DeMaio, 3 hits 2 rbi’s and Dewey McVicker’s 3 hits. Mark Hildebrand led the Avalanche with 2 hits, 5 rbi’s including an OTF Home Run. Kevin Halbmaier and Jerry Bellitt added 3 hits apiece. The Leafs’ win moves them into 1st place at 8-2, while the Av’s drop to 3-7.
