Craig Estep has been chosen as the new supervisor to serve in Community Development District 1.
After his selection by the CDD 1 board Friday morning, he took the oath and his seat at the board table.
The Village of Hacienda North resident ran unsuccessfully for CDD 1 last year. He was defeated in that race by incumbent Supervisor Ellen Cora. Estep moved to The Villages in July 2012. He flew EMS helicopters and worked in emergency response before retirement.
The other applicant was Pete Pittsburgh, also a candidate last year. He was defeated by incumbent Supervisor Clyde Long.
Estep replaces Bill Mapel who was honored for six years of service to CDD 1. Mapel, who recently resigned, was presented with a clock in honor of his service.
