A developer has won preliminary approval for a high-end complex of homes, stores and restaurants off Rolling Acres Road.
“We are trying to create a sense of a village, not just a strip mall,” Gordon Mock, president of Island Style Homes told members of the Lady Lake Commission on Monday in a conceptual presentation.
An architect, Mock told the commission he has been developing homes and retail for more than 20 years.
He said he has witnessed the “evolution of a typical Florida subdivision.”
He said he wants to develop buildings that stand the test of time.
He is hoping to develop property off Rolling Acres Road, not far from American Legion Post #347.
The access would be off well-traveled Rolling Acres Road, but the development would have its own grid of streets.
He envisions 66 homes, some loft apartments and shopping and restaurants.
He said he has developed “beautiful, efficient, hurricane-rated pre-fabricated building packages” in Key West, Palm Beach and South Carolina.
The presentation received a favorable response from Lady Lake leaders.
“It reminds me of Sanibel Island and Sumter Landing,” said Mayor Ruth Kussard.
However, leaders raised concerns about traffic on Rolling Acres Road.
They indicated that the traffic on the road is a problem for Lake County officials.
Mock laid out no timetable for the planned development.
