The sequel to the hugely popular comedy “Perfect Pitch” brings back to the silver screen The Bellas, a woman’s national championship a cappella group from Barden University. The movie begins with the group performing at the Lincoln Center in New York. President Obama and his family are in the audience when a costume malfunction involving Fat Amy (Rebel Wilson) closes the curtain and the show.
The University Board inflicts sanctions on the group for the embarrassment, forbidding them to compete again for the U.S. championship or solicit new members. This does not seem to really concern the flittering group whose college singing seems to outweigh any idea of getting a practical education. The loophole is obvious. They can still compete in the World Competition in Copenhagen.

Bellas co-leaders Beca (Anna Kendrick) and Chloe (Brittany Snow) know the challenge. They must defeat the German Champions Das Sound Machine led by the fearsome Frau Kommissar (Brigitte Sorensen).
The farce that follows is funny. Punch lines are quick and the physical situations are outlandish. The best rapport is by the news analyst team of John (John Higgins) and Gail (Elizabeth Banks). Incidentally, Banks is also the film’s director.
A cappella is defined as “singing without instrumentation.” Much to my disappointment, out of the 18 video productions, only two were true to the description.
The show’s total lack of focus does not seem to bother the fans that have placed “Perfect Pitch 2” at or near the top of the biggest grossing film for the past several weeks.
After some serious thought over this all-out blast of a show, it only scores a C grade for the grey haired group.
“Perfect Pitch 2” is currently playing at the Barnstorm Theater in The Villages.
