A 56-year-old Villager who had been behind the wheel of a golf cart was jailed on $62,000 bond following his arrest on a charge of driving under the influence.

Citizens had flagged down Lady Lake police to report an intoxicated driver operating a golf cart Friday at La Grande Boulevard and La Plaza Parkway.

When he was spotted, the golf cart’s driver attempted to elude police, according to the arrest report.

When the golf cart was finally stopped, the driver was identified as Robert Brunett.

He told police officers that he had been coming from his mother’s house and that he had not been drinking.

He failed field sobriety tests and was booked at the Lake County Jail on charges of DUI while license revoked.

Brunett has a long criminal history, including prior DUI, battery and leaving the scene of an accident. He was released from the jail after posting bond on Saturday.
