To the Editor:

It is a shame for Line Dance instructor Jan Hilgenfeld that Village-News did not see fit to present both sides of the confrontation at Spanish Spring last Friday evening. A volunteer instructor for 8 years, Jan was there on her own time enjoying an evening with friends. What does one do when she tries to retreat three times from someone obviously inebriated, someone taunting by flinging their arms in your face and shouting, “wanna dance, wanna dance.” Someone heard by several bystanders to have said, “Watch this, I’m gonna start some ****.”  When this “unnamed victim” approached Jan a fourth time grabbing at her shirt, Jan did hit her after trying several times to back away, however, “the victim” had made up her mind to cause a major problem. Well she did cause major damage to a very nice, kind and giving Rec. Dept. Volunteer. I would only ask “the victim” what would she have done had roles been reversed and someone had done that to her.
