Margo Smith will be yodeling for ukuleles. Jack Kolinski has moved on from “Les Miz” and will sing for the Wildwood Soup Kitchen. And the Divas are ready to take on the Divos.
It’s all part of The Villages entertainment schedule for local entertainers over the next month. As the snowbirds drift back here and summer turns to fall, the entertainment schedule is revving up.
The Divas — Sue Schuler and Dawn DiNome — will face off against a couple of guys – Alex Scopino and Josh Leggett – on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. in the Savannah Center.
The two women usually perform as dueling divas. But this time, “we wanted to try something different and bring in the guys,” Schuler said. So, the Divos will get their shot at the Divas.
Mary Jo Vitale returns with her elegant vocals on Saturday Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. in the Savannah Center. Vitale will be singing Broadway hits and pop songs. Mark Schmidt is the guest performer also on the bill.
Jack Kolinski seemingly came out of nowhere last season to land the starring role in the local version of “Les Miserables.”
The former karaoke singer gave a stunning performance in the role of Jean Valjean. Now Kolinski continues his remarkable singing career on Sept. 26 in the Savannah Center. He is the main attraction in a fund-raiser for the Wildwood Soup Kitchen. Dawn DiNome is also on the bill.
Carter Poust has the lead role in “Company,” Oct. 3-5 at the Savannah Center. Poust, who worked as a professional dancer in Las Vegas before coming to The Villages, also displays singing and acting talent in the Steven Sondheim musical directed by Carol Greenfield. Money raised will go to the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research.
Margo Smith is a Hall of Fame country singer and yodeler. She now lives in The Villages and had a host of Top 10 singles in the ‘70s and ‘80s.
Smith, who survived a horrific traffic accident in 2014, will appear at Savannah on Oct. 8. Also on the bill with Margo and her band: Phil Caltabellotta and Earl Lavier with The Villages Banjolele Club Variety Show and the Minnie Pearl Fairway Praise Band.
All money raised will be used for the Ukulele Kids Club, Inc.
“They give ukuleles to kids who are very sick and in the hospital,” Smith said. “I’ve seen these kids and I’m going to do everything I can to help them. I hope the people in The Villages will help us help the kids.”
