Man claims he stole stereo amplifier from Wal-Mart to buy food for his child

A man who attempted to steal a stereo amplifier from Wal-Mart on Thursday afternoon told law enforcement the theft was undertaken to be able to buy food for his child.

Cristopher Lee Cruz Colon, 20, of Belleview, entered the Wal-Mart at Buffalo Ridge on County Road 466 on Thursday afternoon. He attempted to leave the store with a Power Acoustik Razor stereo amplifier valued at $104.36, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

Cruz Colon told a deputy that he attempted to steal the item to buy food for his child, the arrest report indicated.

Cruz Colon was arrested on a charge of petit theft and booked on $1,000 bond at the Sumter County Detention Center.
