Marion County sheriff’s deputies are investigating the theft of $300 from an 87-year-old woman living in an assisted living facility in Ocala.
The money was accessed through her debit card at Bank of America at approximately 1:30 p.m. New Year’s Day. The woman had not authorized the withdrawal.
It was unclear whether the debit card had been stolen or lost by the resident but clearly the resident had not authorized the withdrawal of funds, according to a report from the sheriff’s office. The debit card was canceled and two further attempts at withdrawals were thwarted.
