David William Whalen, of The Villages, FL, passed away on April 5, 2016 at The Villages Regional Hospital. His passing was peaceful, surrounded by people he loved and who loved him. He is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Gail Crosby Whalen; his brother, Kevin Whalen; and his sister, Regina Sheila Whalen. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 20, 1945 to William and Geraldine Whalen, attended Brooklyn Prep High School, and was a graduate of Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute, where he studied Systems Science and Electrical Engineering. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He worked in the Signals and Communications Division of the New York City Transit Authority for 37 years. Dave was a past Secretary of the The Villages Amateur Radio Club (K2DWW) and belonged to The Villages Motor Racing Fan Club and The Villages Radio Control Car Club. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, 5323 E CR 462, Wildwood, FL on April 13, 2016 at 10 a.m., to be followed by lunch at the Burnsed Recreation Center in The Villages. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Leesburg Humane Society.
