Joan M. Simmons, age 82, of Summerfield, FL, passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2016. She was born in Manchester, IA on October 13, 1933. She met and married Ronald D. Simmons in 1956. They made their homes first in Iowa, Washington and then retiring to Florida. Joan was an avid golfer. She loved to walk. Her children and grandchildren were the joy of her life. During retirement Ron and Joan enjoyed lots of travelling.
She is survived by her husband Ronald D. Simmons of Summerfield, FL; son Ronald D. Simmons, Jr. and his wife Tracey of Yuma, AZ; daughter Linda Moon and her husband Steve of Omaha, NE; brother Robert Ungs of Manchester, IA; sisters Patricia Westphal of Ft Myers, FL, Mary Havertape of Manchester, IA and Beverley Kline of Manchester, IA; 3 grandchildren Nic, Lindsey and Jessica; and 2 great grandchildren Rhett and Eliza.
A visitation will be held at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 1511 Buenos Aires Blvd, The Villages, FL 32159 on Thursday, May 5, 2016 from 3 – 5 p.m. A funeral service will be held at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 11528 SE Hwy. 301, Belleview, FL 34420 on Friday, May 6, 2016 at 10:30 a.m.
