A Community Development District 2 supervisor is pushing District Manager Janet Tutt to launch a presentation on the pond system in The Villages.
CDD 2 Supervisor Barton Zoellner on Friday morning encouraged Tutt to expedite the presentation on the complicated pond management system. He said there are misunderstandings among residents about the ponds.
Tutt said she and staff are getting ready to “put pen to paper” and develop a symposium-style presentation on the ponds. The goal would be to “educate residents,” she said.
The stormwater retention basins have been a hot topic after ponds at Pimlico Executive Golf Course and at the Allamanda 9 at Cane Garden Championship Golf Course were drained earlier this week by sinkholes.
The Project Wide Advisory Committee is paying for both repairs as the ponds are part of the stormwater retention system. Tutt said some residents mistakenly believe that the ponds are simply for aesthetic beauty. In reality, she said, they play a critical role in stormwater retention and management.
Tutt said she and staff will be working on the pond presentation and hope to unveil it when the snowbirds return.
Zoellner urged her not to wait.
“If the snowbirds aren’t here, that’s their problem,” he said. “People need to know this information.”
