A 26-year-old Weirsdale man was arrested after allegedly pointing a laser light at a sheriff’s helicopter conducting a search late Thursday night.

Phillip Alan Willman was arrested early Friday morning on six counts of pointing a laser light at a pilot. He was booked at the Lake County Jail on $30,000 bond.

Willman repeatedly pointed the laser at the pilot of a helicopter from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office which had been involved in a search near Haywood Grove Road, according to the arrest report.

The pilot of the helicopter provided Lake County sheriff’s deputies with a description of a truck from where the light was coming. Deputies located Willman and placed him under arrest. They also confiscated the laser light Willman had allegedly used.
