A nurse who had skipped a court date on a driving under the influence charge is free on $5,000 bond.
Leona Mae Fleming, 57, of Lady Lake, was arrested June 30, 10 days after a judge ordered her arrest after she failed to show up in Lake County Court. Fleming’s original $1,000 bond was forfeited.
Fleming had been driving a SUV shortly after 1 a.m. April 27 on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 when she was pulled over by a Lady Lake police officer. He suspected she had been drinking. She failed field sobriety exercises and provided breath samples registering .128 and .130 blood alcohol content. She admitted to the officer that she and a friend had consumed two pitchers of beer, according to the arrest report.
According to her Facebook page, Fleming is employed as a registered nurse at The Villages Regional Hospital. She had previously worked at Winter Haven Hospital and Orlando Health, according to her Facebook page.
Central Florida Health, parent company of TVRH, would neither confirm or deny her employment.
