Marnie Fox has just lost her husband, a highly successful New York business man who leaves her a fortune.
To assuage her grief, Marnie (Susan Sarandon) leaves the East Coast to relocate in Los Angeles where her daughter Lori (Rose Byrne) is a screenwriter. Now, totally unoccupied, Mamie calls her five times a day and never gets the message why Lorie lets the call go to the message slot. Marnie meddles as a relief valve for the loss of her spouse. She believes that it is her mission to help others. Maybe even find a husband for Lori.
But Mamie goes to extremes randomly doling out money. She finances a LBGT wedding with a casual acquaintance and takes the part of the 14th bridesmaid to avoid a 13 number jinx.
The cycle is finally broken when love enters in the form of the casual Zipper (J. K. Simmons) who rides a Harley and raises chickens.
Sarandon is the quintessential actress starring in over 50 movies. I was captivated by her 1974 performance as Janet in “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,”and she still has it even though she is in her late sixties. The chemistry with Simmons is as thick peanut butter and just as tasteful. In spite of a plot that wanders, this romantic comedy, “Meddler,”gets a solid B rating on acting alone. See it.
