A 20-year-old Oxford man who refused to comply with police commands told officers that he is “glad that the officers in Dallas were killed.”

Anthony Michael Lloyd of Oxford was pulled over at about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday when he was caught driving 60 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone at State Road 44 and U.S. 301, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department.

A police officer asked Lloyd for his driver’s license, registration and proof of insurance, which Lloyd refused to provide. The officer asked for the documents four times, with Lloyd refusing each time.  The police officer then called for backup assistance. The officer told Lloyd that if he did not provide the documents, he would be placed under arrest. Lloyd then provided the documents to the officer.

A K-9 unit arrived and alerted on Lloyd’s vehicle.

Lloyd was asked by officers to exit his vehicle, which he refused to do, according to the report. He refused a second request to exit his vehicle. Then, Lloyd suddenly swung open the car door, got out of the vehicle and “very aggressively” walked toward a police officer, pointing his finger in the officer’s face. Lloyd was asked to put his hands behind his back, which he refused to do. The officer took Lloyd’s arm and pointed him face forward toward the vehicle.  The officer attempted to handcuff Lloyd who tensed up and refused to comply with the police officer’s commands. The officer noticed a set of car keys in Lloyd’s right hand and fearing that the keys could be used as a weapon, the officer ordered Lloyd to drop the keys. Rather than releasing the keys, Lloyd tightened his grip on them. The officers were able to put Lloyd on the ground and advised him he was under arrest and to stop resisting.

When they handcuffed Lloyd and brought him back to his feet, Lloyd threatened the officers and added that he was “glad that the officers in Dallas were killed,” in reference to the fatal attack on five Dallas police officers this past week. President Barack Obama spoke Tuesday, the same day Lloyd was arrested, in honor of the slain police officers.

The police officer suffered several cuts to his hand and leg in the altercation.

Marijuana was discovered in the vehicle. Lloyd said the vehicle belonged to his mother.

Lloyd was arrested on charges of resisting arrest and possession of marijuana.

He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $2,000 bond.
