A site plan for the Hammock Golf Course, an executive course in the Village of Fenney, was among the projects recommended for approval Tuesday at a meeting of the Wildwood Planning and Zoning Board.

Special Magistrate Archie O. Lowry Jr. recommended that the Wildwood City Commission approve the plan after questioning project engineer Jim Head.

The course on about 135 acres will be located toward the rear of the property near a wetlands area.

Head said the wetlands won’t be affected by the course, which also will be used for water retention during heavy rains. He said the project is under review by the Southwest Florida Water Management District to make sure water resources are protected, including one spring on the site.

“We have a golf course architect we work with,” he said, adding that the architect will plan every aspect of the course.

The Village of Fenney is about four miles along County Road 468 from The Villages current southern boundary at State Road 44. The Hammock course will be open to all Villages residents, but golf carts can’t be driven to the new village.

Lowry also endorsed site plans for the Blue Heron Postal Park and the Fenney Village Recreation Center.

The postal park includes a walking path, pool and four buildings with 10,785 square feet on 3.6 acres. The 39,795-square-foot recreation will have two buildings and feature a restaurant and pool.

Lowry also reviewed improvement plans for two Fenney neighborhoods, including Unit 3, which will have 99 single family detached homes, and Hyacinth Villas, which will have 62 homes.

He also reviewed final plats for three other Fenney neighborhoods, including Bougainvillea Villas with 46 homes, Sand Pine Villas with 60 homes and Unit 1 with 129 single family detached homes.
