It’s the season for opera in The Villages, with a series of upcoming events.
Central Florida Lyric Opera presents “La Boheme,” Thursday, Feb. 2, at 7 p.m. in the La Hacienda Regional Recreation Center.
The “Three Tenors Plus One,” annual scholarship fundraiser for the Opera Club of The Villages will be held Feb. 11 at 3 and 7 p.m. in The Sharon.
It may not be classical opera, but Kallen Esperian and Gary Beard will present a concert of love songs and romantic melodies Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. in the New Covenant United Methodist Church.
“La Boheme” is Puccini’s classic opera about young lovers in Paris living a bohemian lifestyle. The stellar cast includes: Theo Tyrrell, Samantha Geraci-Yee, Michelle Dillon, Andrew Struhar, Sam Reynolds and Jared Eggleston, who recently earned acclaim for his role in “Camelot.”
Maestro Bill Doherty will step into a new role during the annual “Three Tenors Plus
One,” fundraiser for the Opera Club on Feb. 11 at 3 and 7 p.m. in The Sharon. Money goes to the Harold S. Schwartz Music Scholarship fund.
Doherty, who usually plays piano and conducts, will step on stage as one of the tenors.
Doherty will be joined by Fanyong Du and local favorite Devin Eatmon, a graduate of the Villages High School. Also appearing is Corinne Bach, who has performed with Sarah Brightman, Kenny G, and Broadway touring companies.
