A 66-year-old one-time basketball standout from Maine, convicted in 2014 in a child pornography case, has taken up residence on the Historic Side of The Villages.
Dana Edward Wilson has moved from Maine into a home at 1713 W. Schwartz Blvd., according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
Videos found on Wilson’s computer in 2011 showed adult men having sex with girls under the age of 12. Monitoring of child pornography sites by law enforcement officials outside of Maine led to an internet protocol address owned by Wilson.
Wilson is a well known sports figure in Maine. He had been inducted into the Maine Sports Hall of Fame for his basketball feats at Bangor’s Husson University. Wilson averaged nearly 35 points per game his senior year, best among all NCAA Division III schools that year. But he was tossed out of the Maine Sports Hall of Fame because of the child porn case.
He also worked as a DJ.
At the time of Wilson’s sentencing in 2014, Assistant District Attorney for Penobscot County Tracy Collins said Wilson had not taken responsibility for his actions and tried to blame his son.
“In his statement he mentioned how this case has affected him and did not mention once how others have been affected by this case,” Collins said, according to the Bangor Daily News. “Certainly the victims who were depicted in the video have been affected, but also his family, his loved ones have been affected by this and he did not apologize to a single one of them.”
During his sentencing hearing, Wilson complained that the case had estranged him from his family, the newspaper reported.
Wilson was was sentenced to two years and six months behind bars with all but nine months suspended, according to the Maine Department of Corrections. He is currently serving four years probation.
During his probation, Wilson must participate in sex offender counseling, have no contact with children and must not possess pornographic material. He is also subject to search and testing for pornographic material.
