The mother of the 13-year-old suspect in the foiled Columbine-styles shooting plot at the Villages Charter School is facing charges of cocaine and cannabis possession.

Melynda May Shearon, 42, of Fruitland Park, is free on $3,000 bond following her arrest on a pair of Lake County warrants this past week by Sumter County sheriff’s deputies.

Melynda Shearon was at the Sumter County Courthouse on Thursday afternoon when a deputy became aware that she was wanted on the Lake County warrants charging her with the drug offenses. She was placed in double-locked handcuffs and transported “without incident” to the Sumter County Detention Center. She posted bond shortly after midnight and was released.

Zachary Shearon remains in juvenile detention. He is facing a charge of conspiracy to commit premeditated murder after the plot was uncovered in January by the school resource officer and school principal. Shearon and a fellow student, 14-year-old Richard “Trey” Hummer, had reportedly hatched the plot together. Hummer recently entered a plea to a lesser charge and has been sentenced to probation.

Melynda Shearon had obtained a real estate license in 2006, but it expired in 2011, according to the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Her Facebook page indicates she began working in sales and marketing for The Villages in 2009.
