A 53-year-old man who told police he was scraping by on disability check will have to answer in court after allegedly stealing merchandise from Target.

Dale B. Tanner of Leesburg entered the store on March 24 and put $137.87 worth of merchandise in a reusable bag and attempted to leave the store without paying for it, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department.

When questioned by police, Tanner said he does not have a job and receives a disability check that does not cover his bills.

He was issued a summons to appear April 12 in Lake County Court. He was also ordered to stay out of the store.
