Green Key Village, the eco-friendly solar-powered community on Lake Ella Road in Lady Lake, has received preliminary approval for removal of a historic live oak tree to accommodate a new road within the development.

Approval for the removal of the 37.56-inch tree is being sought to accommodate the construction of a road to the new age-restricted Green Key Village Cottages Subdivision.

The tree’s removal received the blessing Monday night of the Lady Lake Planning and Zoning Board.

Greg Thomas, developer of Green Key Village, said they are “working around” other live oaks that are intended to be preserved.

Additional trees will also be planted.

The planning and zoning board’s recommendation will be forward to the Lady Lake Commission.
