A pipe bomb was recovered Saturday evening from a reckless driving suspect’s stolen vehicle in Marion County.
A Marion County deputy noticed a small silver car run a stop sign, traveling at high rates of speed and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver failed to stop for the deputy, according to an arrest report. The deputy pursued the vehicle until the suspect lost control of his car, causing him to crash and roll the vehicle on its rooftop, the report stated. When the deputy approached the vehicle to check on the driver, later identified as 25-year-old Trey Morgan Turner, the deputy noticed what appeared to be a pipe bomb inside the car. The deputy confirmed that it was a pipe bomb and that the car was loaded with C4 explosives. Turner told the deputy that he “was sent by the K.G.B. to take out the world and that they (deputies) needed to be careful,” according to the report. The MCSO Bomb Squad confirmed that the pipe bomb was a destructive device and destroyed it on the scene.
Turner’s vehicle was stolen during a carjacking case in Leesburg, the report noted. Turner was charged with possessing or attempt to make an explosive device, resisting officer- flee and elude law enforcement with lights and siren active, driving while license suspended and possession of a controlled substance. He also violated his probation on two Lake County charges: grand theft of a motor vehicle and battery on a person 65 or older.
He is currently being held without bond at the Marion County Jail.
