A man has been arrested on a warrant charging him with stealing more than $26,000 from a Village of El Cortez man.
Michael Land, 25, who lists an address at The Quarters Apartments in Lady Lake, was arrested Tuesday night on a charge of criminal use of personal identification.
Between Feb. 3 and March 12, he systematically drained $26,388.50 from the Villager’s bank account.
He made 13 ATM transactions at the Shell gas station on Buenos Aires Boulevard and five ATM transactions at a BB&T bank in Summerfield.
The Villager had given Land his debit card and PIN because Land said he needed medication and could not pay for it. On other occasions, the Villager gave Land use of his car and his debit card so Land could purchase groceries for him.
The Villager discovered the transactions when he received his bank statement.
Land was booked at the Lake County Jail.
