During an address Thursday to the Lady Lake Chamber of Commerce, U.S. Congressman Daniel Webster made remarks about the state of Congress, bureaucracy, and government in general.

“I didn’t come to defend the United States Congress, it’s indefensible,” opened the Congressman from the 11th district of Florida.

Webster went on to discuss the state of current projects, including efforts to amend and reduce the tax code.

“Right now, I could stand by the tax code and reach this high; I cannot reach the top of the tax code” said Webster while extending his hand above his head.

“We’re trying to get it down to about right here,” said the Congressman while motioning to his shoulder.

“We’re trying to get the majority of people to fill out a one-page form; we’re trying to lower the corporate rate, the pass-through rate…from 35 down to 25 percent” added Webster. “If we do that, we will not only become more competitive here, but we will become more competitive internationally.”

The Congressman added that they are currently looking at healthcare and an “infrastructure plan” in addition to the tax code.
