Time to check your meter?
Thought my meter reports and bills were too high. Contacted water department to test. They came to house conducted tests and said “all OK.” I asked them if they checked the meter for accuracy or would replace the meter. They said they do not do that.
With assistance of irrigation company, I recorded all water usage for a month, taking meter readings before and after each watering and calculating the expected output based on outflow for each irrigation head.
My calculations showed a large discrepancy. I showed my detailed results to the water department. They then changed out my meter and my monthly usage reports went down by approximately 40 percent. By the way, I disconnected the seasonal sensor adjustment for this study to ensure consistent conditions throughout study and subsequent use.
