District Manager Janet Tutt revealed at Wednesday morning’s Amenity Authority Committee meeting that an ordinance is coming that will provide muscle for parking enforcement in The Villages.

She said the Town of Lady Lake recently enacted changes that allow police officers to ticket parking violators. She said Lady Lake has had great success, particularly with cleaning up parking at Spanish Springs.

She said Sumter County is working on a similar ordinance and it should be up for consideration this summer.

This vehicle has been parked for eight months at Savannah Center.
This abandoned vehicle has been parked for several  months at Savannah Center.

That would provide the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office with the authority to ticket improperly parked cars in The Villages.

She said she is pleased with Sumter County’s ordinance and had not been previously at liberty to speak about it.

“If you park inappropriately in a town square, you are going to get a ticket,” she said.

The ordinance should be helpful in removing abandoned cars from Savannah Center and villas, she added.
