Red Tail Memorial Chapter 136 of the Air Force Association will meet at 7 p.m. July 20 in the Sheltair Building conference room, 1200 SW 60th Ave., at Ocala International Airport.

“This will be an important meeting,” Chapter President Howard Burke said. “It will be the first meeting after the Florida AFA State Convention at which membership and membership dues will be a major point of discussion. In addition, our representative in Washington, U.S. Congressman Daniel Webster (FL-11), will be our guest at the August meeting and we need to make plans to extend a proper welcome.”

Contact Burke, (352) 861-0886 or [email protected], for more information, to reserve a seat at the August chapter meeting or to join the Air Force Association.

The Red Tail Chapter draws its nearly 500 members from Alachua, Dixie, Citrus, Levy, Marion, Sumter counties and parts of Lake and Putnam. Most of the Red Tail Memorial Chapter’s members are Air Force veterans from all ranks. Some served in other military services; yet others have never been in uniform and joined, often because of their interest in flying, airpower or the history of flight.

The chapter name memorializes the Red Tail Squadron, African American airmen who forged a path into cockpits that were for whites only during World War II. The purpose of the AFA is to promote a dominant United States Air Force and strong national defense, and to honor airmen and the Air Force heritage.

The chapter meets on the third Thursday of each month unless otherwise noted.
