A teenage ATV rider died Sunday after crashing into a tree the previous day in Marion County.
Sean Xavier Stokes, 17, of Citra, was riding a 2004 Yamaha Raptor westbound on NE 165th St. when he ran off the roadway onto the south shoulder of NE 165th St., according to a Florida Highway Patrol accident report. The front of his all-terrain vehicle struck a tree, causing the vehicle to rotate counter clockwise before coming to final rest, facing northeast, the report stated.
Stokes was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead after succumbing to his injuries. It was reported that he had not been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
