Helen ‘Alice’ Hawes, age 89, of The Villages, FL, died peacefully on Thursday, August 24, 2017, at The Villages Hospice. Born in Ridgewood Queens, NY to Wanda and August Kurtzrock.
Alice was certainly proof that good things don’t always come in small packages. While at Grover Cleveland High School she received major service awards, played tennis, badminton, and basketball, was Vice President of the Senior Council and member of the Honor Roll.
Alice loved food, family and friends and complimented each with her gregarious nature and contagious laughter. She spent several wonderful years in Europe as a newlywed with her husband in the Air Force. During much of her career as a wonderful wife and mother, Alice worked as an administrative secretary in the education field. She arrived in The Villages after retirement in the mid 90’s and remained active with golf and swimming for almost twenty years. Alice always loved a good game of cards or Rummikub and had an amazing knack for winning. She was a true “people person” and naturally taught the meaning of unconditional love.
Alice was survived by Peter, her loving husband of 66 years, daughter Daryl, son Brian, and two grandsons Michael and Dan.
A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at The Congregational Church in Summerfield, FL 34491 followed by a reception at Buffalo Crossings, 3890 Woodridge Dr., The Villages, FL 32162.
Please send donations in lieu of flowers to The Villages Hospice House (Cornerstone) at 601 Casa Bella, The Villages, FL 32162, (866) 742 6655.
