A habitual offender driving a dead man’s vehicle was arrested near the entrance to the Oxford Oaks gated family community near The Villages.

Kevin Dale Sharkey, 23, of Wildwood, was pulled over shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday on U.S. 301 near the entrance to Oxford Oaks when a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy noticed the license plate to the Mercury station wagon he was driving was reported as stolen.

The deputy discovered that Sharkey’s driver’s license had been revoked for 60 months as of June 19 as he has been classified as a habitual traffic violator.

When the deputy ran the vehicle’s VIN, it was discovered the vehicle’s owner was deceased. An inventory of the vehicle turned up hypodermic needles and a glass pipe containing marijuana residue.

Sharkey was arrested on charges of driving while license revoked and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $3,000 bond.
