The National Weather Service has indicated that the Withlacoochee River at Rutland, Lake Panasoffkee, Nobleton and Croom-A-Coochee is at flood stage. The river is expected to greatly exceed flood stage through next week. Residents living in these flood-prone areas are urged to take protective actions and evacuate voluntarily.

Sumter County Emergency Management is reminding residents about the dangers of flood waters. As little as six inches of water in motion can knock a person down, and a foot of water can move a vehicle. Residents are asked to avoid flooded roads/areas and use caution and common sense while driving.

A shelter for displaced residents is still available at the Sumter County Fairgrounds. For more information, please contact the Sumter County Citizens Information line at (352) 569-3190.
