A popular produce stand was shut down Wednesday when it attracted too much traffic on U.S. Hwy. 441.
Jeffrey Young, 28, of Wildwood, set up his produce stand in the 16700 block of U.S. Hwy. 441 in Marion County, but drew the ire of a Florida Department of Transportation official who determined Young had created a traffic hazard.
A Marion County sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to the scene and saw “numerous vehicles pulled off to purchase produce,” according to an incident report.
Young told the deputy, “the Constitution allows farmers to sell their produce” and he claimed he was not in violation of the law.
However, the deputy determined Young had several tables set up within 15 feet of the roadway.
The DOT officer indicated she would followup with the state attorney’s office.
