Two people were killed when a car left the roadway and struck a tree early Saturday morning in Sumter County.

The two people, a 39-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman both from Belleview, have not been identified pending notification of next of kin. They both died at the scene of the accident, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Their 2008 Chevy four-door had been traveling at 12:51 a.m. at a high rate of speed northbound on County Road 209, north of County Road 202. The vehicle traveled off the outside edge of the roadway and the driver overcorrected to the left. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree.
